ABOUT THE BALLAN WRASSE
The ballan wrasse is a species of marine fish found in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, where it inhabits rocky areas. It is a large, heavy bodied fish with a large head, and have incredibly strong teeth which they use to pull molluscs and barnacles off the rocks. Interestingly, all ballan wrasse start off life as females but the most dominant fish will become males later on in life.

ABOUT THE BLUE TIT
A popular garden bird, the blue tit can be spotted at bird tables and feeders, as well as parks and woodlands. They eat a range of insects, caterpillars, and seeds, and in winter, they flock together with other tit species to search for food. They nest in holes in trees and walls, and also frequently use nest boxes, where they lay between 10 and 12 eggs in a single clutch.

ABOUT THE BUMBLE BEE
The buff-tailed bumblebee featured in this print, is the largest of the bumblebees and are found in lowland areas. They are social insects and form small colonies of 50 individuals in a nest with a single queen. Bumble bees feed on nectar, which they gather to add to the stores in the nest, and collect pollen to feed their young.

ABOUT THE CLOWNFISH
Clownfish are found in warm waters, in sheltered reefs or lagoons, in the Red Sea, and Pacific Ocean, the Great Barrier Reef. They survive by a symbiotic relationship with anemone, which protects the clownfish from predators. In return, the clownfish uses its bright colours to lure fish into the anemone, where they are killed by the anemone’s poison and eaten. Clownfish eat various small invertebrates and algae, as well as food scraps the anemone leaves behind.

ABOUT THE CHOUGH
The Chough, or Cornish Chough as it is commonly known in the UK, have black plumage and brightly coloured scarlet legs and bills, and are found in mountains and rocky sea-cliffs. They feed on short grazed grassland, eating mainly invertebrate prey such as leatherjackets and beetle larvae, and occasionally vegetable material. With their long broad wings they perform spectacular aerobatics.

This painting is shows an engine house at Wheal Uny, a historic mining site to the south of Redruth, Cornwall. It mined tin and copper, and has two engine houses, a number of shafts and a chimney, dating from around 1800.

In the wild they are native the Amazon river basin in Brazil. In nature, discus eat plant material and detritus, but also forage along the bottom looking for worms and small crustaceans. They are popular aquarium fish as they are peaceful fish that are rarely aggressive.

Dogtooth Tuna is a large pelagic fish, also known as a white tuna, and got its name because of the external resemblance to tuna, although it isn’t one. Instead, it is a bonito. It can reach up to 2.5m in length and weigh up to 130kgs. It is widespread throughout the tropical waters, and hunts small schooling fish and squid. The dogtooth tuna is My original painting in acrylics, is available as a fine art print, and shows a close up view of the tuna’s head.
