On the Easel
I've started a new collection of large scale wildlife illustrations (70 x 50cm), one of which includes this green sea turtle with coral reef in the foreground.
My painting method starts with planning the composition, then after several sketches, creating a final detailed drawing using an '005 Micron pen' on tracing paper. I transfer the image onto the watercolour paper using a lightbox, which allows me to achieve a fine line pencil drawing, ready for painting.
Materials: 300gsm Fabriano Artistico HP paper, Windsor & Newton Cotman brushes, Liquitex acrylic paints.
